What an Independent Template Copy Means

Your own copy of a shared template is a new design in your account. It is not a co-edited document nor a live link to the author.

What you will learn

  • What gets transferred into the copy.
  • Which changes are not passed between the copy and the original.
  • How to take care of your variation.

Original vs. your copy

EventWhat happens
You edit colors in your copyThe author's original remains unchanged.
The author later adds a new rowIt is not automatically added to your existing copy.
The author turns off sharingYour previously created copy stays in your account.
You delete your copyNeither the original nor other users' copies are affected.
You export your variationThe ZIP is generated from the current state of your copy.

How to work with the copy correctly

After acquiring the template, rename it according to your project. Go through the sample content and replace everything intended to represent your site. Also check third-party modules (Phoca Cart and similar). Their type may be visible in the design, but the corresponding extension must be installed separately on the target Joomla site.

If you want to use a newer version of the original design later, create another copy from the gallery and compare the changes manually. The application does not offer automatic merging of two separate templates.

Independence means protection

You can delete rows, change skins, and try new layouts without worrying about ruining the work of the author or other users.
