Footer presets

The footer closes the page and often concentrates contact information, navigation, legal links, or brief details. The editor offers twenty ready-made layouts that create a consistent bottom part of the design.

What you will learn

  • Recognize the role of the Footer module when opening the dialog.
  • Find an eligible bottom row for the footer's custom content.
  • Select one of twenty server-known variants.
  • Separate design appearance from real Joomla data and links.

Why the footer uses two anchor points

The dialog opens from the Footer module, but the actual layout is assembled into the nearest eligible bottom row above it. The Footer module thus acts as a fixed reference point, while the content area receives a dedicated row for columns and blocks.

If no such suitable row exists, the preset cannot be used. The target cannot be the mainbox, left or right sidebar, an inner row, or any custom section. By enforcing this, the editor prevents the footer system from being inserted into the middle of the main content or into a structure for which it was not designed.

How to select a preset

  1. Check the bottom section of the grid. A supported bottom row must be available above the row containing the Footer module.
  2. Select the Footer module and open the footer presets menu.
  3. Browse the twenty variants. Choose based on the amount of information, not by trying to fill every column.
  4. Confirm the layout. The server re-identifies the target row and verifies the allowed blocks and the 12-column structure.
  5. Add text and supported modules that make genuine sense in the footer.
  6. Check the mobile preview. A multi-column footer must remain easy to read even after stacking vertically.

What belongs in the footer

Useful foundations

Brief contact information, important links, operational details, and a concise brand identity. Every block should have a clear purpose and an understandable heading.

What to avoid

Repeating the entire site, excessively long paragraphs, and modules whose extensions are not installed on the target website. You do not need to rescue an empty column with filler text.

What the preset does not provide

The footer preview is inert. Links and forms in the editor do not interact with a live website. The preset does not create real menu items, legal texts, or external extension data; it merely constructs a supported design structure.

Confirmation can significantly alter the target row. The editor therefore saves a history checkpoint from which you can revert using the visible Undo control. Furthermore, the server re-determines the row and allowed arrangement, so it does not rely solely on data sent by the browser.

Before applying a preset, perform a quick inventory of the lower section of your design. In Layers, check which modules are already above the Footer and note down any text you want to keep. The preset addresses structure, not content accuracy. After confirming, go through each new block, remove placeholder texts, and check the display sequence on mobile devices. If the footer contains a menu, its sample links in the editor are not real navigation items, and the live result depends on the menu configured in Joomla.

Perform the same check for text and link contrast against the chosen background.

Result

The selected layout is created above the Footer module, every column serves a useful purpose, the mobile version remains readable, and you understand that final verification of links will occur on the live site.
