The Slideshow module creates a prominent visual block featuring up to five rotating slides. Each slide can combine an image, title, text, and up to two buttons.
What you will learn
- Insert a Slideshow into an active Joomla position.
- Build individual slides and configure their buttons.
- Write meaningful image alternative text.
- Distinguish the simulated preview from the actual Bootstrap carousel after installation.

What can be placed in a slide
A single slide can contain a main image, a short title, supporting text, and alternative text for the image. Additionally, it can feature a primary and secondary button, each with its own label and link target. It is not necessary to fill in all fields. Often, a single clear title, one sentence, and one main call-to-action button work better than a lengthy promotional paragraph.
Alternative text describes the meaning of the image for users who cannot see it. If the image is purely decorative and the surrounding text delivers the same information, the description can be brief. If the image conveys essential information, write it concisely and avoid simply repeating the file name.
The Slideshow supports a maximum of five slides, with up to two buttons per slide. Without usable content, it displays a placeholder image; an empty visual space is not proof that the final photo is already bundled.
How to create your first slideshow
- In Modules mode, locate Slideshow in the catalog and drag it into an active, visible position. A wider row is typically best suited for an introductory block.
- Select the module, open its right inspector using the small settings icon, and navigate to its custom parameters.
- For the first slide, choose an image and add alternative text, a title, and a short description.
- If you need a call to action, add a label and a safe target URL for the button. Use the second button only for a genuinely distinct secondary action path.
- Add additional slides in the same manner, up to a maximum of five. The slide sequence should tell a clear story.
- Test desktop, tablet, and mobile views. Check text legibility over the image and ensure the buttons do not crowd out important content.
How the module behaves after export
The bundled module uses the Bootstrap carousel. Indicators and directional arrows only make sense when there is more than one slide, so they are omitted for a single slide to avoid unnecessary controls. The first image is given loading priority, while subsequent images load lazily. Output supports responsive AVIF and WebP sources while maintaining fallback images for browsers that do not support modern formats.
The image shown in the editor is part of the design preview and is not automatically included in the installation package. The export process replaces chosen local, stock, or cached images with bundled placeholders. Therefore, configure and verify actual photos in your target Joomla site after installation.
What you see in the editor
The preview is an inert representation. It helps evaluate size, colors, typography, and responsive layout, but it does not run live plugins or display live site content. The Slideshow module is bundled into the export package only if the design actively uses it. Always test final slide transitions, links, and image sources on your installed website.
Result
The Slideshow contains up to five slides across 6 layout types, every important image has alternative text, buttons have safe link targets, and the mobile preview remains clear and readable. You also account for replacing image placeholders after installation.
